Our wine
Artefact /ar-ti-fækt/ noun
1. An object made by a person, especially something of historical or cultural interest.
Wine has been an integral part of civilisation for thousands of years, serving as both a religious sacrament and a medicinal elixir, enriching conversation, forging friendships, and changing our emotions (for better or worse).
Artefact wine is designed to be enjoyed in the present while giving a nod to the past. Each wine is extraordinarily unique - in taste, story, or the hand-drawn artwork on the label, which takes hundreds of hours to complete.
A Moment in Wine
Our ‘A Moment in Wine’ collection is a time capsule of each vintage.
We produce this wine at Castlewood Vineyard, which sits snug below the Iron-Age hill fort of Musbury Castle in East Devon. Here, we use the ancient tradition of Tuscan amphorae winemaking to imbue Artefact A Moment in Wine with a timeless quality.
Then, we experiment. Every year, there are subtle changes. It may be a different variety, winemaking technique or, of course, the artwork.
Each label, hand drawn in the style of a historical artefact, is an interpretation of the events that shaped our world during the vintage. We then let the wine in the bottle do the rest of the talking.
